This was a personal project for our own wedding, and it gave me a rare opportunity to design something beautiful, romantic and expressive through the use of typography.
My wife and I became engaged in Annecy in France, which became the inspirational point for the Save The Date cards. I researched vintage French postcards, and created a distinct note card that could be both printed and posted, as well as digitally emailed when needed.
The main event was the Invitation card. This I designed to be printed with letter press in mind. I wanted to use a two colour printing technique, using an exquisite 300gsm Somerset Cotton paper stock, which gave an outstanding impression. We sourced equally exquisite woven paper envelopes, and worked the sizing to fit these. As well as designing the typography and information, I also created and drew the map diagram on the inside of the card, complete with woodcut effect church and venue illustrations.
Along with the invitations was the RSVP card, which was printed on the same stock, with mini envelopes, which made a lovely little edition to the stationary set. The set also included, order of service, place cards, menus, and detailed illustrated table names (based on mountain ranges).
The printer that we used, Blush Publishing UK, were fantastic to work with, and ensured that we obtained the highest quality from the designs. My designs are now a feature piece on the wedding section of their website.
